Forum conversations are more visible in Google: How brands should adapt their content strategy

Ahrefs’ 145-million-result study shows the growing visibility of community conversations in search. Here is how brands in Türkiye should interpret the signal.

Google’s “Discussions and forums” module is not new. What is new is the clearer sense of scale from Ahrefs’ large study published on August 27. The research examined 145 million Google search results and reports that Reddit links appeared in 83.9% of the observed instances of that module. It also says the module appeared in 11.7% of the results it studied. Neither figure is a traffic forecast for an individual brand. It is, however, a useful reminder that the places where people compare, question and share experience are no longer peripheral to organic visibility.

What the study says, and what it does not

The distinction matters. This is not a Google announcement about a ranking rule or a new algorithm update. It is an observational study of visible results over a defined period. It does not mean that every brand should create a forum, that every conversation will rank, or that a company absent from Reddit is automatically losing demand. The more useful reading is that people looking for information, especially in longer queries, often want lived experience alongside a formal brand page.

The distribution in the report is meaningful too. Reddit is not the only surface involved: Facebook, Quora and niche communities also appear, while visibility remains concentrated around a handful of major platforms. Search behaviour, language and community habits in Türkiye will not mirror this sample perfectly. Treat the study as a signal about the shape of demand, not as a local market-share table or a universal playbook.

Why this matters to brand and marketing teams

When someone searches “is this product durable?”, “is this service difficult to set up?” or “what is this brand’s customer support like?”, they may see peer experience before a sales page. That is not only an SEO concern. It reaches product, customer service, social media and content teams: are they answering the same recurring questions consistently? When the brand leaves a gap, third-party commentary is likely to fill it.

The answer is not to manufacture participation or steer conversations through throwaway accounts. That approach can damage trust and violate community rules. A more durable response is to identify the real questions that recur, then answer them clearly across product pages, help content, video, sales conversations and social channels. SEO services can map the search intent; content production can close information gaps; and social media management can turn recurring feedback into a usable loop. They should be part of one operating plan, not separate tactics.

What brands in Türkiye should check now

Start by combining the questions that reached sales, support and social teams during the last 90 days. If the same question appeared three or more times, it is more than an operational nuisance: it may be a search-intent candidate. Capture the customer’s phrasing rather than your internal terminology. Then review the query in a private window and on mobile. When a discussion module appears, note what uncertainty the first few links resolve.

Next, audit your own pages. Do your product and service pages explain returns, delivery, compatibility, price scope, implementation, maintenance and real-world limits? Is the FAQ a keyword dump, or does it help someone decide? Does customer support say the same thing as sales? These checks remain valuable even when a discussion module is absent. The study simply gives teams a practical way to prioritise which information gaps to close first.

A four-step decision framework

1. Classify the question: is it informational, comparative, troubleshooting or post-purchase support? 2. Separate evidence: do not mix facts your brand can verify with subjective customer experience. 3. Choose the right response format: one question may need a product-page clarification, another a short video, a help article or a public answer from a qualified expert. 4. Measure the result: review query patterns, support demand, engagement and the conversion path together after publishing.

This framework is not about replacing community conversations with brand content. Communities are useful because they reveal the language and anxiety behind a question. The brand’s responsibility is different: make verified information accessible and provide prompt support where needed. In health, finance, tourism and high-consideration B2B services, it is particularly risky to treat a thread as official guidance. This is also where patience matters: do not change a product message or campaign budget overnight because of a handful of comments.

Fark Studio’s perspective

The real value of this research is not a new tactic called “forum SEO”. It is a reminder that search visibility is increasingly sensitive to the distance between what a brand publishes and what customers tell each other. Transparent product information, useful support content and consistent communication improve both the brand’s own pages and the quality of the wider conversation.

A practical starting point for the next quarter is to select ten high-intent questions and audit each one through three lenses: “is there a clear answer on the site?”, “does every team give the same answer?” and “which external source does the search result surface?”. If that reveals a gap, our contact team can help bring content, technical structure and performance measurement into one roadmap.
